Probably the single most common question we get from people is “I want to get started with some passive income online part time to supplement my day job income, what’s the best way to get started?”. It’s a very common goal and objective, and once achieved, many are “hooked” on online marketing and begin the transition to a full time stay at home marketing career.
We don’t preach the “easy button” approach as there simply is no magic solution to making money online, but creating quality product review sites – especially in conjunction with our Building Authority Sites model – is a great way to get started with some passive income.
In this episode we tackle the “product review site” approach – the good, the bad and the ugly. We tell you how to do it the right way so you don’t waste your time and money and we give you a lot of information from our vast experience of creating these types of sites in many different niches over the past few years. In fact, we sold one of these Authority Review sites in a non-Internet Marketing niche for $100k. That bought us a house for cash, so don’t dismiss these sites as being just cheapo $100 a month sites. That one product review site made us about $700 a day.

Hey Mike and Troy – great podcast… I’ve been following your podcasts since the first one and have really enjoyed them, but this is by far my all time favorite. I alwayss wondered how you got started and if it was something i could do as well and this podcast has inspired me to take a step in that direction.
Great Sam – thanks for your support and for following our podcast… and hey, since you like it, do us a favor and go up to iTunes ans leave us a review… Those reviews encourage others to check it out as well and help it grow!
Glad to hear you’re taking some action – that’s where it all starts. Just remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day, so don’t expect immediate results and don’t expect to hit a homerun with your first site. It’s all about “progress” and learning how to bunt your way around the bases first! But hey, a $300 a month site is a very nice little luxury to have – that’s a car payment for a lot of people. So just start slow and put in consistent effort and it will pay off.
We had one student of ours who is a divorced mom living overseas in a country where she doesn’t speak the language that started out small but was consistent. Over the course of a year she built up a $5k per month income from just one very obscure niche site like this. But again, it didn’t happen over night.
Take care and good luck!
I like this product review approach… just not sure how to really get started with it or what niche I should choose – any quick advice?
Hi LeeAne,
The best way to choose a niche at first is to choose something that you are passionate about and enjoy. Then look for products that you can promote/review/endorse in places like Clickbank.com, PayDotCom.com, or ComissionJunction.com. The reason I always recommend starting with something you are passionate about is that it means you’ll likely have some knowledge and/or expertise in that niche and enjoy researching it further and producing content for your site (blog posts, videos or audios, etc…). We’ve got a ton of resources – more than a 100+ hours of training content on niche selection, creating review sites, creating continuity programs and membership sites and many other topics inside our Insider’s Club group coaching if you really want to jump into this (all for less than you probably pay for Starbucks each month).
Take care and thanks for stopping by!
I have been on the internet for a couple of years now and I found that multiple streams of income are great, if you know how to use them to make a huge profit. Niche sites pretty much get to the point and this is what people are looking for when they do a search. Adding a few product reviews or clickable links every now and this is perfect for gaining more sales. A lot of people are always looking for a better way to get more traffic when they should be focused on getting click throughs on those reviews that they do because this is where the money is at.
Hi Brian, great points and I agree with you
Thanks for stopping by
I have actually gotten products given to me so that i could review them. This usually happens on downloadable items but I have also had items such as tools given to me to review. I posted a contact form with a note telling the readers that if they would like to see their product featured, contact me for further details. They contact me and I tell them that I will review it if i can have one to check out. Sometimes I get money from affiliate links and other times, I just get the free product and then I turn around and sell it if I don’t really have any use for it.
Very cool Catherine. I like that method. Thanks for stopping by!
One thing that I learned to do with reviews on my blog is, give the review, demonstrate by video, and also show how one might use the product such as things that I have personally made or photos of things that others have made using the product. I tend to get great conversions this way and often I can combine two sales into one if a product requires the purchase of two items.
Awesome – thanks Toby
