seems to me that Authorship is just Google’s way of forcing more people to use Google+ – is there really any value in it?
Hey Jon,
Yeah in a way I kind of agree with you, but the facts are that Google does dominate the search front and there are several legit reasons for Google Authorship that make it viable and a good option regardless. Google has always faced an uphill battle determining content ownership and that is the one “promise” of Google Authorship that makes the most sense. I do agree that tying it to Google+ is a way of boosting their Google+ membership as well, but they’ve done than in many more productive routes like gmail than just Authorship, so not sure that that is too big of a deal here.

Yeah but You cannot deny that it Boosts traffic from Google as many Readers find search results with Google Authorship markup as Genuine, also Every leading Company does so to keep their Hand over their field just like microsoft did by making Windows mandatory to almost all Laptop vendors
Hi Ravi,
We don’t deny the benefits of Google Authorship at all – in fact, in the podcast we talk exactly about those benefits and how having that image in the SERPS can definitely bring your more traffic and clicks. And yes, big companies are “heavy-handed” in their business for sure – good example.
Thanks for stopping by…
I never really heard this distinction before between social marketing ang social engagememt – seems to make a lot of sense to me, but doesn’t that kind of mean that social engagement is kind of a waste of time too?
Hi Tammy,
Thanks for stopping by and the comment… No, it doesn’t mean that social engagement is a waste of time at all. In fact, there have been studies recently that show that sites who maintain a strong social presence do a much better job with repeat sales even though the sales are NOT coming from their social sites. In other words, the social sites are fulfilling an “engagement need” that the customers have and through that interaction they’re more comfortable to buy more and more frequently. So this, to us, is the heart of social engagement. Don’t think of it so much as a marketing channel, but rather more of a way of just interacting with your clients and subscribers on a different level…
Hope that helps…

I like the helpful information you supply on your articles.
and I like that you like the information! Thanks for stopping by Flinn!
I do have a question for you guys, is there such a word as subscribership? LOL you guys crack me up. I found that reading through your podcast is just as funny as listening but I can understand it a little bit better so I’m glad that you guys offer this. Also, I never thought about adding my content producer title to my google + account so thanks for mentioning this and explaining it’s importance between the chicken picken teeth digging. lol
Hey Abbey – we coined the term! Thanks for the comment!
I just recently joined Google+ and I am still learning it but is it okay to accept people who are outside of your niche? I have people asking me to connect all the time but they don’t really seem like eager participants.
Well, friends are friends. They don’t need to be in your niche, so yeah I would accept whomever you want to be in your circles, no whatever niche they appear to be in. Thanks for stopping by.
You were talking about your friend and how great he was in interacting on twitter and this kind of gave me an idea. Would it better for me to interact with a social network that i feel more comfortable with and learn more about feeding my information into people without spamming them versus trying to stay up to date with the million social networks that are out there?
i believe so Reuben, it makes easier for you to accomplish on a regular basis when its something you are familiar with.
