        Hey Troy,

u mention a couple of utilities or apps or something in the podcast for speeding up audio, what are those & were do I find them?

        • Troy January 23, 2013 at 8:29 am #

Hi Jonas – thanks for stopping by…

Sorry about that, I just added them to the resources on the page above. They’re “audio speed ripper” and “video speed ripper”. I’m a mac user and they’re both mac apps available via the app store (I did put the links to them above). I’m sure there’s something in the Windows world to do the same thing, but I don’t use Windoze anymore, so not sure…

          Hope that helps…

        m & t – nice podcast…

I’m a little confused though, should I stop linkbuilding alltogether and just only do content syndication now? Isn’t that just another form of linkbuilding that might get me into trouble in a future Google update?

        P.

          Hey Paul,

Glad you enjoyed the podcast… No need to stop linkbuilding all out, but you do need to be “careful” and make sure that you’re getting quality links and that you’re not spamming the anchor text. Shoot for 25% or less keyword anchor text and again, make sure you have a lot of diverse link types.

As for content syndication, no, it’s not the same as linkbuilding. When you’re getting links via network link building utilties, etc… you clearly are not interested in getting traffic from those links or marketing your site via those links – they’re going straight to blog networks for the simple purpose of upping your link counts. Content syndication is totally different. First off, not all of them will even give you a link – so that is clearly not the goal. Secondly it is really all about marketing your site and advertising your site and providing value. You’re giving away free information via a doc share site, for example. That’s just good marketing. Whether or not it results in a link or not, the link is not the PURPOSE of the effort – the purpose is to market your site and that is the key difference. It’s really no different than submitting your site to the Yellow Pages for a listing to market your site there. Same thing…

Hope that helps man… and see ya on the next podcast!

          Hi Ravi,

More times than not, yes passing link juice will help your site rise in the SERP’s. That has always been true and still is today. The trick is to not stand out like a sore thumb with your linkbuilding. Check out this post: http://topmarketingstrategies.com/seo-what-is-working-today

Darn it, I’m one of those people who thought it was the same thing. Well, another lesson learned. I heard of one girl who made a bunch of niche type sites with different content and would link back to each of her other sites to create some link love. Is this possible and is a good idea to do this?

        • Mike March 3, 2013 at 11:42 pm #

You can do that, but you have to be very careful. Because doing that kind of stuff can get you in trouble if not done properly. In essence she created her own network, and it can work very well.

Thanks for your iconoclast viewpoint. For years, off page anchor text was the #1 method for boosting SERPs. Not anymore. Links are still important, but they must look natural, random, and diverse.

        • Mike March 3, 2013 at 11:39 pm #

Yes, things have changed, and those who do not adapt get left behind. Thanks for the comment!

I have actually had some luck using Stumbleupon’s ppc. It wasn’t massive but about 80% of the people that landed on my page actually stayed for while. I have used pretty much every ppc and there’s is the best but I think this is because they actually choose what they see and you set up exactly what category you want your page or site to be listed in. I still think that links are an important part of building your site but I just thought I would throw this one in there.
